Charles Haddon Spurgeon (June 19, 1834-lanuary 31, 1892), the "Prince of Preachers," pastured the New Park Street Chapel-later the Metropolitan Tabernacle-for 38 years. (The Metropolitan Tabernacle was built to accommodate his growing audience. It could seat 5,000 people and allowed for another 1,000 standing room.)
