This faithful retelling of God's story in narrative form invites the reader to join with the original recipients of the word, hearing the message in a relatable and relevant way, showing us that each of our individual stories are part of and find their true place within God's much greater story. The old testament is told through the words of an elder speaking to his fellow captives during the exile of Babylon, recounting the oral history of his people and how it has led to this point, while still pointing towards the hope that is ahead. The new testament is largely told to a newcomer within a group of believers, though Revelation is presented by a different storyteller at a later date. While this book is entertaining, engaging and well written, the biggest strength of this book for me was how it showed the ongoing truths of the Bible threaded throughout its different books and stories that help show how the full story of the Bible, and the place of the smaller stories within it.
