Essential reading for Christian educators others wanting God centred education

Norman de Jong has again displayed the soundness and godliness of his extensive experience as a Christian educator. The book outlines an approach which emphasises the tranformational nature of education in opposition to the so common progressivist model of education as merely training for the job market. \\r\\nHe provides a corrective to the twin errors of child-centred (typically the government school emphasis) and the subject-centred (typical private school emphasis) and proposing that Christian schools (who often follow a baptised version of one or other of these errors) should be God-centred. De Jong doesn't leave you hanging with this as a theoretical thing and much of the book focusses on what that would look like practically in the school. He gives a good assessment of the Outcome Based approach and why this is not Christian no matter what outcomes may be added. \\r\\n\\r\\nI thoroughly recommend this book as a great starting point for thinking about what truly Christ-centred education would look like.
