Historical Romance from the Author of *The Preacher's Bride*
Priscilla White knows she'll never be a wife or mother and feels God's call to the mission field in India. Dr. Eli Ernest is back from Oregon Country only long enough to raise awareness of missions to the natives before heading out West once more. But then Priscilla and Eli both receive news from the mission board: No longer will they send unmarried men and women into the field.

Left scrambling for options, the two realize the other might be the answer to their needs. Priscilla and Eli agree to a partnership, a marriage in name only that will allow them to follow God's leading into the mission field. But as they journey west, this decision will be tested by the hardships of the trip and by the unexpected turnings of their hearts.

    Lovely story

I really enjoyed this book for lots of reasons. It had an interesting storyline (which was just unusual enough to keep me guessing right to the end), intriguing characters with strong faith, lots of historical facts thrown in there about the early pioneers of America and, almost unbelievably, was based on the diaries of an actual missionary. I truly felt as if, for those few hours I read, I was transported back in time and travelling with the two main characters, faced with their impossible decisions and slowly falling in love alongside them. A truly lovely story I'd definitely recommend.

    Fun reading

I loved this book. It is your standard historical romance between two people who are forced to marry to achieve their dreams, but Jody Hedlund has the ability to craft characters who you fall in love with want to journey with. Coming to the end of the book and finding the author's note that this story is based on the real life missionaries who did this journey makes it more than just a book to fill in time but one that inspires you to have courage and faith to step out for God as well. \\r\\nThis book is really worth reading. \\r\\n

Everything You Need For a Great Read

Set in 1836, this is the action packed, romance packed, hard to put down story of Priscilla White, who desperately wants to be a missionary to India, and Dr. Eli Earnest, who desperately wants to be a missionary to the Nez Perce Indian tribe in Oregon Country. The mission society prohibits unmarried missionaries, and so a marriage of convenience is formed. Jody Hedlund delightfully takes us along on the adventurous journey - the first time white women have crossed the Continental Divide, and also on the journey towards true love. The Author's Note reveals that the story is based on actual events in the lives of Marcus and Narcissa Whitman, which adds to the depth of all that we endure along the way with the main characters. \\r\\nI thoroughly enjoyed the journey, would read it again, and would recommend it to any lover of historical romance.

    An Exciting Read

Romance novels where two individuals are forced to marry because the union will benefit both people are novels that I love to read. \\r\\nPriscilla White believes she'll never be a wife or a mother because she feels God is calling her to the mission field in India. Dr. Eli Ernest has just returned from the mission field in Oregon Country, hoping to soon return after raising awareness of missions to the natives before heading back out. However one thing stands in the way of both of them- the mission board had decided not to send out unmarried men and women. Eli and Priscilla agree to marry each other, in name only, and head out into the mission field, however little do they know what God has planned for them. The trials they're confronted with greatly contributed to the story's development and the romance between Eli and Priscilla. \\r\\nThis book from Jody Hedlund was a really exciting read. Reading Hedlund's cleverly crafted relationship between Eli and Priscilla flourish made me want to hope the book will never have to end. Priscilla's bold, out spoken personality and Eli's gentle, determined, considerate nature really made them perfect for each other. Several days after completing this book, the story still lingered in my mind. \\r\\nTo anyone who really loves their romance novels, this is one that can't be missed and I highly recommend. \\r\\n
