Small town romance
Second chance romance
Alanah, has set off on a trip of a lifetime.
Her best friend from high school, Sasha Kennedy, has invited her to Trinity Lakes, Washington State, to be part of her wedding party.
South Australia to Trinity Lakes is literally the other side of the world, so Alanah has a full schedule of adventure planned while she's away. A summer camp counselor; a trip to Canada; sightseeing in New York and Boston; and avoiding Sasha's twin-brother, Caleb.
But a silly accident puts Sasha out of commission for all the planned adventures, and Caleb is sent to retrieve his former high school sweetheart from the airport. Eleven years should be enough time to have cooled the love Alanah and Caleb once shared. Should be, but apparently not. This is not a great thing to acknowledge considering Caleb has just announced his engagement to someone else.
Six months of avoiding Caleb-worse-avoiding feelings about Caleb-is going to be a long time.

Caleb and Alanah love each other, but they know there's no future in their relationship because she can't leave her home in Australia and he can't leave his home in the US. To complicate matters, he proposes to long-time friend Kyla the night before Alanah arrives for a holiday with his sister. Caleb soon realises his mistake, but it's too late. Or is it?\\n\\nThere's a lot to enjoy in this romance novel. I liked Alanah and Caleb, and the situation they find themselves in is one that many international couples would face after summer romances. The writing is very good and I also loved the introduction of Aussie/American differences in language and customs; and the way there was some consideration of how indigenous people view our national holidays, especially Australia Day. \\n\\nThere were a couple of bits that I wasn't quite as keen on. Kyla is so unlikable that it's hard to feel any sympathy for her. I know it's a balance. You can't make her too likable because then you don't know which girl you're cheering for, but I would have liked to see at least one redeeming quality. Also, I know the situation is difficult if neither Alanah nor Caleb want to leave their families and home countries, but they didn't really try to come up with any solutions for most of the book except to avoid each other. \\n\\nHowever, I did enjoy the novel and the interplay of their Christian faith in their decision-making. Recommended for those who like Christian romance with an Aussie twist.
