**Lindsay Harrel presents a powerful story of healing, forgiveness, and finding the courage to write your own story.**

A year after the death of her abusive fiancé, domestic violence counselor Sophia Barrett finds returning to work too painful. She escapes to Cornwall, England-a place she's learned to love through the words of her favorite author-and finds a place to stay with the requirement that she help out in the bookstore underneath the room she's renting. Given her love of all things literary, it seems like the perfect place to find peace.

Ginny Rose is an American living in Cornwall, sure that if she saves the bookstore she co-owns with her husband then she can save her marriage as well. Fighting to keep the first place she feels like she belongs, she brainstorms with her brother-in-law, William, and Sophia to try to keep the charming bookstore afloat.

More than 150 years before, governess Emily Fairfax knew two things for certain: she wanted to be a published author, and she was in love with her childhood best friend. But he was a wealthy heir and well out of her league. Sophia discovers Emily's journals, and she and William embark on a mission to find out more about this mysterious and determined woman, all the while getting closer to each other as they get closer to the truth.

The lives of the three women intertwine as each learns the power she has over the story of her life.

Disappointing if you're expecting Christian fiction

This book will irritate two kinds of readers. Those who don't want Christian based fiction who will be reading along perfectly happily and then discover that Christianity has been thrown into the story right at the end. Seemed to come out of nowhere and then disappear again. There was no warning on the blurb of such a thing. Most people don't know which publishers are supposed to be Christian and so naturally enough they're annoyed when they get a surprise. \\nThe second kind of people will be ones like myself who were expecting Christian fiction and were disappointed at how little there was and disappointed by the main character who is supposed to be a Christian. William - what were you doing treating Sophia as your girlfriend without finding out whether she shared your life direction? Loss of two stars right here. Part of the loss of stars was because of the weird pluralistic scene with the Buddha where I thought,""""Oh, so W. isn't a Christian. """"\\nThe best part of this book was the historical part which was what kept me reading. \\nGood cover.

    Powerful

This story has a very powerful message and is highly emotional. It follows the lives of three women, two modern day and one from the 1800s. They are intertwined with each other. We walk with them as they discover who they are individually and that they each have value. This story has a message for woman who have been abused emotionally, verbally or physically. It is incredibly encouraging.

    Excellent

The Secrets of Paper and Ink is the story of three women: a therapist who's a victim of domestic violence, a separated Christian woman, and an impoverished gentlewoman. All are in difficult situations, partly a result of their own bad decisions but more a result of the decisions of the men they depended on. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe Secrets of Paper and Ink is a powerful story of love and loss and loving again. \\r\\nThe writing is excellent, and I loved the way the author wove the Victorian story into the contemporary. The main theme is of three women forced to discover their identities as individuals rather than as daughter, fiance, or wife. It's a challenge many modern women still face-finding our purpose in God rather than in man. \\r\\n\\r\\nIt's a strong message that's presented well. The novel isn't preachy at all-in fact, you could give this to a non-Christian friend and they probably wouldn't even guess it's from a Christian publisher. At the same time, it's true to real life and true to the Bible. Sin is present, but so are the consequences. And the end message is most definitely Christian. \\r\\n\\r\\nThanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.
