This book will help Christians think about thinking. Focusing on the life of the mind helps us to know God better, love him more, and care for the world. Along with an emphasis on emotions and the experience of God, we also need to practice careful thinking about God. Piper contends that "thinking is indispensable on the path to passion for God." So how are we to maintain a healthy balance of mind and heart, thinking and feeling?
Piper urges us to think for the glory of God. He demonstrates from Scripture that glorifying God with our minds and hearts is not either-or, but both-and. Thinking carefully about God fuels passion and affections for God. Likewise, Christ-exalting emotion leads to disciplined thinking.

In typical John Piper fashion, this book is quite meaty and substantial. Piper addresses the issue of intellects vs non-intellects in their reading of the Bible and how and why to embrace serious thinking to fulfill God's greatest commandment, love the Lord your God with all your Mind, soul and strength AND to love people. It almost takes you through an all you can eat buffet of good quality foods in portions, enough for you to understand and digest before moving onto the next point. Even while reading this book and the Bible, I already find myself thinking that extra bit more, asking one more layer of a question to try and understand a little bit clearer. And if you find yourself doing that, then this book has done its job to encourage the reader to consciously think more. \\n\\nThis book will be well suited for anyone and everyone. Those who question and think a lot, to those who are not thinkers and doers.

Necessary reading!
There is a term thrown around about 'head knowledge' vs 'heart knowledge', with the former being seen as lesser. Emotionally driven Christians may disregard the intellectual exercise of knowing God, in favor of having 'passion' and 'zeal'. Without being informed by a transformed mind (Romans 12) that conforms to scripture as it's standard, there is no guarantee that the passion and zeal isn't amiss. \\r\\n\\r\\nPiper here seeks to encourage the reader in part of the golden that is often overlooked: """"love the Lord your God with all your MIND"""". But be aware, this is not just a hit of information; Piper challenges our daily living with applicable points that will set us up to loving God, obeying God, and knowing God (is there a difference. . ??) as intended, with understanding and conviction.
