**A gifted rider in a world where ladies never race, Maggie Linden is determined that her horse will become a champion. But the one man who can help her has vowed to stay away from thoroughbred racing for good.**

An Irish-born son far from home, Cullen McGrath left a once prosperous life in England because of a horse racing scandal that nearly ruined him. He's come to Nashville for a fresh start, hoping to buy land and start a farm, all while determined to stay as far away from thoroughbred racing as possible. But starting over proves harder than he?d wagered, especially when Maggie Linden's father makes him an offer he shouldn?t accept yet cannot possibly refuse.

Maggie is certain that her mare, Bourbon Belle, can take the top purse in the annual Drayton Stakes at Nashville's racetrack??the richest race run in America. Maggie only needs the chance to prove it. To give her that chance, and to save Linden Downs from being sold to the highest bidder, Maggie's father??aging, yet wily as ever??makes a barter. His agreement includes one tiny, troublesome detail??Maggie must marry a man she's never met. A man she never would have chosen for herself.

Cullen and Maggie need each other in order to achieve their dreams. But their stubborn, wounded hearts??and the escalating violence from a "secret society" responsible for lynchings and midnight raids??may prove too much for even two determined souls.

    Read with caution

This book is very well written and has a great storyline and characters (which I really liked) however it does have a flaw that needs to be mentioned. \\r\\nEven though the main characters are married, I felt there was too much of a sexual focus in the book. There's a few scenes that go into lots of detail that I think shouldn't of been in the book if it claims to be in the Christian genre. \\r\\nThere's also some distressing scenes about a noose and a tree that aren't suitable for younger readers. I know this is in the book as these things did really happen post war in America so it's in there to create the picture of how bad the times were and the tensions between the different cultures, but it's still upsetting to read.

    Bookshelf Keeper

What a treasure of a book! I have officially read it twice now, and am not disappointed. Tamera writes with such ease, talent, and life that I enveloped myself completely into the characters and story. It felt like my own personal movie. What started off as a """"business arrangement"""" marriage ended as anything but. Maggie and Cullen's struggles were so real and natural, their emotions springing out of the pages. Both have secrets from their pastpresent that continues to interfere with their relationship. Like layers of an onion, the more they are revealed the more Maggie and Cullen trust and respect each other (despite initial betrayal). Part of their journey includes making those that feel ousted by society loved and valued. I love how General Harding is a frequently occurring person, whose character and belief keeps the story on edge. This is a bookshelf keeper - the romance is emotional, alive and genuine; the characters (especially Kizzy and her family) are special; and Tamera writes with such depth. I can't wait to read it a third time! You'll love it.

    Worth Reading

Tamera is a wonderful writer and has once again painted with words a story worth reading. I just love the intensity of this story and how she delicately weaves a bit of intimacy into the story-line. The Author has created a novel with a good balance of family relationships, romance, friendships and faith; which makes for a very compelling and captivating story. that kept me interested from the beginning until the end of this novel. This book can be read as a standalone novel, however, I read Book 1 in this series, To Whisper her name, which gave me an understanding of the characters and story-line from Book 1 that the the Author sometimes refers to in this novel. Well worth reading.
