When circumstances in Sweden become unbearable, the three Carlson sisters decide to immigrate to Chicago. As hardship becomes their constant companion, they wonder if their hopes for the future can ever be realized. Only in crossing a seemingly endless ocean will they find the true meaning of love, faith, and home

Life in Sweden seems like an endless winter for three sisters after their mother's death and father's suicide. Elin feels the weight of responsibility for her sisters' welfare, and when circumstances become unbearable, she writes to her relatives in Chicago, pleading for help. Joining sixteen million other immigrants who left their homelands for America between 1890 and 1920, Elin, Kirsten, and Sofia begin the long, difficult journey. Enduring the ocean voyage in steerage and detention on Ellis Island, their story is America's story. And in a journey fraught with hardships, each woman will come to understand her secret longings and the meaning of home.

    A delightful read!

I loved this book, despite a couple of nights of disrupted sleep worrying about the characters and imagining possible outcomes! Lynn Austin's characterisation is exceptional. I found this story thoroughly engrossing. I love the very natural way that the characters' faith is questioned, challenged and applied in 'real life' situations. A delightful read!

I wasn't ready for it to end

This beautiful story made me think of my Mum who also came immigrated by boat as a child and then underwent quarantine. The Carlson's sisters journey is full of surprises and I couldn't put this book down. I think I should order my Mum a copy for Christmas :).

Lynn Austins Until we reach home is a wonderful story about three sisters and their move to America and the challenges they faced. It was a compelling story with the characters flaws being relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the three sisters and their differences in personality and the their own views on the same situation. It highlights resilience and great faith in the Lord to carry you through lifes challenges.
