When a car accident leaves a famous movie star in a coma, nurse Kemp McAvoy thinks he has found his ticket to the life he's always wanted. As a med school dropout who was on his way to becoming an anesthesiologist, Kemp has the knowledge to carry off the crazy plan he concocts: adjust the star's medication each night and pretend to be a heavenly visitor giving her messages. He recruits her agent and a down-and-out publisher to make sure the messages will become the next spiritual bestseller and make them all rich. But his girlfriend's daughter, Leah, keeps telling people that she is seeing angels, and her mother and her teachers are all afraid that something is wrong. Before it's all over, they'll all learn a few things about angels, love, and hope.

    Clever Concept

I'm a big fan of the Bug Man series so when I saw this novel by Tim Downs I was glad to try it out. And I wasn't disappointed as it was a well-written hard to put down novel. The plot is unusual with some clever twists. But it also demonstrates one of the other reasons I like Tim Down's book, I was left thinking about the concepts explored long after finishing it.

    Message from God?

Just finished a great novel by Tim Downs called """"Wonders Never Cease. """" I have to say I wasn't really expecting much (I picked it up mostly because it looked like one my wife would enjoy), but it turned out to be brilliantly perceptive and entertaining. \\r\\n\\r\\nKemp McAvoy is an ambitious nurse who ends up looking after a movie-star in a medically-induced coma, and he concocts a """"brilliant"""" plan to use the situation to make himself rich. So he contacts a struggling young publisher, adjusts the patient's meds just a little, dresses up as an angelic visitor, and gives her """"a message from God for the world. """" And when she wakes up, the only thing she'll remember is the message - and Kemp and his friend will have an inspirational book that'll sell like hotcakes. At least that's the plan. . . . \\r\\n\\r\\nObviously it's a bit of fun, but Tim Downs' creative storyline and uncanny character insight certainly bring out some interesting commentary on life, ambition, love, success, family, and God. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe story started slowly, and there were a fair few chapters given to setting the scene, introducing the characters and so on. But once it got going, it just kept building and building, and I became more and more involved - mostly dreading how everything would turn out!\\r\\n\\r\\nWorth a read - I've put it on my wife's bedside table for when she next needs something.
