John MacArthur (1939–2025) was an influential pastor, Bible teacher, author, and expositor known for his emphasis on careful, verse-by-verse study of Scripture. He served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, from 1969 until 2025 and was the featured teacher of the Grace to You media ministry.

Over more than five decades of ministry, MacArthur wrote extensively on biblical interpretation, Christian doctrine, discipleship, theology, and the life of the church. His best-known works include The Gospel According to Jesus, Biblical Doctrine, and The MacArthur Study Bible, which has helped millions of readers engage more deeply with Scripture.

MacArthur also served as chancellor of The Master’s University and Seminary. Through his preaching, books, study resources, and theological training, his ministry had a significant international influence and continues to provide Christians with resources for understanding and applying the Bible.
