Meals have always been important across societies and cultures, a time for friends and families to come together. An important part of relationships, meals are vital to our social health. Author Tim Chester sums it up: "Food connects." ??Chester argues that meals are also deeply theological - an important part of Christian fellowship and mission. He observes that the book of Luke is full of stories of Jesus at meals. These accounts lay out biblical principles. Chester notes, "The meals of Jesus represent something bigger." Six chapters in *A Meal with Jesus* show how they enact grace, community, hope, mission, salvation, and promise. ??Moving from biblical times to the modern world, Chester applies biblical truth to challenge our contemporary understandings of hospitality. He urges sacrificial giving and loving around the table, helping readers consider how meals can be about serving others and sharing the grace of Christ?

    Really great

I was drawn in by the title of this book and learned so much from it. A great way of looking at meals & eating, in a way which I had never considered before. I am far more aware of how/when/where I eat and do my best to give thanks and time to God for each meal. I would highly recommend to anyone, especially those questioning how meals can truly glorify God.

    Wow a feast

I thought that this book would be about the Last Supper. I was very wrong. While the Last Supper is discussed, Tim Chester uses the passages from the entire bible on food to teach on grace, forgiveness, salvation, living like Jesus and mission. It is an absolute feast of information and encouragement. \\n

    Powerful and practical

A must-read for all Christians. Rather than being caught up with elaborate church programs, Chester brings us back to the simple meals that Jesus himself joined in. Through the gospel of Luke, he shows how Jesus' meals with others were signs of grace, community, salvation and promise. He then gives very practical advice and encouraging stories of how everyday Christians can reach out to others and build community to share the gospel around simple meals without being bogged down with complicated logistics. Chester does an amazing job of pointing us to an overlooked treasure of the Christian faith.

    Excellent and Challenging!

After reading his other title, 'A Busy Christian's guide to Busyness"""", I was compelled to look further into Tim's work. This title is a cross between a commentary on Luke and a theology of food. In Tim's classic style, he explores the topic theologically first, and then remains in a very thoughtful mindset as the book unfolds. I was invited to interact with and apply what I was learning about good, meals, hospitality, community and mission - and it was a very stirring journey! What a day it will be when we're with Christ, sharing in the great banquet!
