Birds and Bees By the Book (Set Of 6)

The 'Birds and Bees by the Book' series is a set of 6 illustrated books that help parents start conversations with their children about body image, relationships, sex and related issues. The illustrations are accurate but appropriate for the recommended 7-10 years age group. Each book points children back to their creation in the image of God, building their decisions about sex around their identity as a child of a gracious and loving God. I'd highly recommend them as a starting point for conversations on these tricky but important topics.

I saw these books on a sex education book stall once and quickly read through the book about gender. I found that the way gender was explained in the book was in line with current popular values rather than my Christian values. \\r\\nIt did not explain gender dysmorphia and did not explain the biological facts about gender as well as I expected. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe other books in the series were better. I would say they are written from a liberal Christian viewpoint, and not as bible based as other similar books available. \\r\\n\\r\\n The pictures were beautiful and the language was easy to understand. They were well written, but they did not fit in with how I am teaching my kids about traditional values on gender, marriage and sex.

Like it or not, sex is everywhere in our culture, and no one can escape the fact. Not Christians, not children, not even Christian children. As Christian parents, we need to raise our children to understand sex, and understand its place in our lives. The easiest time to introduce many of these concepts are when children are young, before it becomes the topic of playground discussion, and when they are young enough that they actually listen to us and respect our parental opinions. \\r\\n\\r\\nBirds and Bees by the Book is a set of six books for children about sex. It is written by Patricia Weerakoon, an Australian Christian sexologist. The books are beautifully illustrated by Lisa Flanagan. Penny Reeve, a popular Australian children's author, served as an editorial consultant, and Alyson Officer was the Child Psychology Consultant. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe books are:\\r\\n\\r\\nMe and My Family\\r\\nMe and My Body\\r\\nMe and My Brain\\r\\nLearning About Sex\\r\\nLearning About Gender\\r\\nLearning About Pornography\\r\\n\\r\\nI admit those last two gave me pause! However, I soon found the books are designed to be read in order, so each builds on the previous book. \\r\\n\\r\\nOverall, Birds and Bees by the Book strikes an excellent balance between being too vague and being too explicit.
