Check the research before you buy

The book quotes Caroline Leaf's research as the basis of many chapters, however this research, that is, her 'scientifically proven five-step plan' has yet to be published in any scholarly journals, and so I would be cautious in buying this book if you are seeking something that is backed by evidence. There is a chapter about the research, however again I would implore readers to check the research against the scientific method before proceeding to apply the suggestions in the book to their daily life. There is also little to no scripture cited in the book and the book does promote an app that one can pay for, so again I would cation readers to gain a greater understanding of what scripture and the scientific literature says on the topics of depression and anxiety before they apply the tips in this book to their lives. The book uses scientific jargon and diagrams that may be confusing to readers as well.

    Really impressive, impactful book!

I really appreciate the approach taken by Caroline Leaf and her balance between scientific research and christian perspectives. cleaning up your mental mess is a thought provoking book, brimming with meaningful advice to help people make real changes in their lives. For me, this book was eye-opening, inspiring and motivating. It is a slightly heavier read, but I believe it is an extremely valuable read for anyone eagre to improve their mental health. I think it would make a precious gift to someone dealing with mental health struggles, too. This book exceeded my expectations.

    Not what I expected

I couldn't get into this book. I'm sure some people would find it really helpful in managing their mindset and thought life. I was expecting a book that would be based on God's word. But it's not. I'd read Dr Leaf's earlier work, and loved it, but this book seemed more like a secular program that was being pushed. The book appears to be thoroughly researched, but I wouldn't call it bible-based.
