Whether you speak from the pulpit, podium, or the front of a classroom, you don't need much more than blank stares and faraway looks to tell you you're not connecting. Take heart before your audience takes leave! You can convey your message in the powerful, life-changing way it deserves to be told. An insightful, entertaining parable that's an excellent guide for any speaker, Communicating for a Change takes a simple approach to delivering effectively. Join Pastor Stanley as he discovers that the secrets to successful speaking are parallel to the lessons a trucker learns on the road. By knowing your destination before you leave (identifying the one basic premise of your message), using your blinkers (making transitions obvious), and implementing five other practical points, you'll drive your message home every time!

Great stories capture and hold an audience's attention from start to finish. Why should it be any different when you stand up to speak?

Story Behind the Book

Andy Stanley and Lane Jones are on staff at one of America ’s largest churches, North Point Community. Leaders of thousands of people, they regularly speak in front of large groups. They also listen to numerous speakers and know the disastrous effects of a poorly delivered message. Incredibly insightful

To me the idea of preaching seemed so complex, and if I was going to prepare something I was ready to unload all of my information on my audience. This book has equipped me with the understanding of speaking and communicating ideas in an intentional and effective way. If you want to not just speak but to be heard then I can't recommend this book enough.

A Must-Read for Those Who Communicate the Word of God!

In this extremely helpful book, authors Andy Stanley and Lane Jones share with the readers, especially those who are pastors, how they can be more effective in their preaching. Arguing that every message ought to have only one point, Stanley and Jones share seven proven principles of communication to help pastors deliver an effective message that will result in life-change. Principle No. 1 is Determine Your Goal which is teaching people how to live a life that reflects the values, principles and truths of the Bible. Principle No. 2 is Pick a Point which means taking your audience to a place where they will discover a truth that will change their lives. Principle No. 3 is Create a Map which is ME (Orientation) - WE (Identification) - GOD (Illumination) - YOU (Application) - WE (Inspiration). Principle No. 4 is Internalize the Message so that it becomes a part of you and you own it. Principle No. 5 is Engage Your Audience. This can be done by raising a need, creating a tension, and asking a question they have been asking. Principle No. 6 is Find Your Voice, that is, find what works effectively for you and be authentic. Finally, Principle No. 7 is Start All Over by praying when one gets stuck and going back to basics (e. g. What do the audience needs to know? Why do they need to know it? etc. ). This book is highly recommended for pastors!

Perfect book to help you preach efficient, engaging and applicable sermon

I have been a listener to Andy Stanley's teaching for several years. Almost every time I hear his sermon, at the end of it I always go away with something practical to do or a principle to live by. I love this because I don't even have to force myself to remember it. . I just REMEMBER! \\r\\n\\r\\nSo many sermons I hear over my Christian life gets forgotten. Only a few handful where it really sticks in my mind. These days, Andy's sermons are one of the most that sticks with me. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe key to how Andy Stanley does it is well explained in this book. At first, he explains in depth the reason WHY you must preach effectively, engagingly and easy to apply. Then he elaborates on the HOW and what he does in crafting his sermon in such way. This is a brilliant tool for any preacher or communicator out there!\\r\\n\\r\\nI also loved how he begin half of his book with a story, rather than a teaching. I feel like I'm reading a novel for the first part of the book, which is brilliant because it makes reading it so much more interestingly, while still keeping the content useful. Then he spends time teaching, using the story as reference. \\r\\n\\r\\nAll in all, its one of the most enjoyable and useful book I've read. I highly recommend this to any preacherspeaker wanting to improve their communication skill.
