*A woman with a devastating secret. A man bent on proving his worth. A chance encounter that catapults them into the heart of history.*

When the daughter of a prominent Roman general meets a disinherited Jewish immigrant, neither one can dream of God's plan to transform them into the most influential couple of the early church. Nor can they anticipate the mountains that will threaten to bury them. Their courtship unwittingly shadowed by murder and betrayal, Priscilla and Aquila slowly work to build a community of believers, while their lives grow increasingly complicated thanks to a shaggy dog, a mysterious runaway, and a ruthless foe desperate for love. But when they're banished from their home by a capricious emperor, they must join forces with an unusual rabbi named Paul and fight to turn treachery into redemption.

With impeccable research and vivid detail, *Daughter of Rome* is both an emotive love story and an immersive journey through first-century Rome and Corinth, reminding readers once again why Debbie Macomber has said that "no one brings the Bible to life like Tessa Afshar."

MA18+ but better than secular romantic fiction

Interesting to see characters such as Priscilla, Aquila and Paul brought to life. Other fictional characters added (the author clarifies at the end which parts were drawn from the Bible and which parts from her imagination). Grew my empathy for the joys and struggles non-Jewish people may have had when integrating into the early church with Jewish people and what mentoring relationships and multicultural romantic relationships may have looked like. The message of grace, forgiveness of sin, showing kindness to strangers and enemies, and God's love through Jesus is repeated throughout, making it better than a typical young adult romance book. Not recommended for high school students due to sex scenes between a married couple and references to a past adulterous relationship. Not too explicit, but I would've preferred cleaner content.

    New Fav Author

I’ve always loved historical fiction by Francine Rivers but needed a new author to read now that I’ve read them all! Tessa Afshar was a fluke find and now I’ve worked my way through most of her existing books.

Daughter of Rome was the first I read and it sucked me straight in. Now that I’ve read others as well, I’ve noticed that Tessa often brings some of the story lines from previous books into other books. Not huge spoilers but it may be worth reading them in publishing order.

    Another brilliant biblical novel!

I must say, whenever I pick up a novel by Ms Afshar, I know I'm in for a treat, and this one did not disappoint! With interesting characters and fascinating settings, this novel pulled me in right from the beginning. I really enjoy Ms Afshar's writing style, and the way she retold Priscilla and Aquila's story was captivating and engaging. This novel challenged and encouraged my own faith and I would highly recommend this novel for lovers of biblical fiction.
