Exodus (Niv Application Commentary Series)

I found this book to be a great starting point for understanding and applying the book of Exodus. Enns does a great job of drawing out the narrative of the book in a powerful way and highlighting its contemporary significance. \\r\\nI would have liked a more detailed examination of the text for each section with less space given to the 'bridging contexts' for each passage, however, that would make for a much larger commentary altogether. \\r\\nI'd recommend this book to readers and Bible study leaders but would suggest pairing it with a more in-depth commentary on the text for those preaching or studying the book in greater detail.

To prepare a sermon series on Exodus I purchased a number of commentaries. This has proved to be the most useful and helpful. It is well written and thoughtful, with a thorough focus on God and Christ, as any true commentary should have. \\r\\nEach passage is dealt with under the headings """"Original Meaning"""",""""Bridging Contexts"""" and """"Contemporary Significance"""" which leads your study from the words of Scripture to the application needed to reveal the significance of the passage for the present-day Christian. The applications are in line with the text and never try to stretch the meaning to fit a preconceived notion, as some commentaries are prone to do. \\r\\nThis commentary has helped provide some real inspiration and encouragement to our church members as we have continued our study of Exodus. \\r\\nThe commentary is thoroughly recommended. I will focus on this series when I need future commentaries. \\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n
