    Perceptive dangers, simple method.

I liked his intro of three dangers:

    • impressionistic (immediate impression on your listeners, not exegesis)

    • inebriated (use bible more for support than illumination, not let it be sovereign)

    • inspired (appeal to my fresh subjective reading as inspired, of the “living word”)

His steps were simply: Exegesis -> Theological Reflection -> Today

And liked his care that: My sermon should be rightfully submitted to the shape and emphasis of the text.

    Useful supplement

This little book on preaching helps brings clarity to certain aspects of preaching. It is not a complete guide to preaching. Rather, it's a small book which helps existing preachers sharpen and clarify certain areas. Useful as further training, but not as the first or main book to learn preaching from.
