Now well into his 80s, renowned theologian J I Packer offers a compelling vision for engaging with the adversities of aging while pressing on in godliness. Packer offers pastoral encouragement and personal examples that will help readers to embrace lifelong learning, purposeful planning, and running the race to the end.

Thinning hair, failing eyesight, and arthritic hands reveal the inescapable truth that we are only getting older. Instead of sitting back and taking it easy, however, renowned theologian and author J. I. Packer—now in his mid-80s—offers us a compelling vision for lifelong learning, purposeful planning, and running the race until the end despite the many challenges that come with aging. Packer’s pastoral words and personal examples encourage us to press on toward the upward call of God with endurance and grace—that we might finish our lives with joy and glorify Jesus no matter how old we are.

Another classic from an old saint

As the title suggests this is another classic from a modern day saint and master theologian. He expands on Paul's words,""""I have finished the race and kept the faith; there awaits for me a crown of righteousness """" (my own paraphrase). Packer encourages Christians to finish strongly and focus on the fact that what we have done for Christ will last. This will bring indescribable joy which will get past the weakness and frailty that comes with age. Perhaps not suited for new or young Christians but certainly a must read for mature age Christians and those entering the twilight of their lives in Christ.
