An overview of what the Bible says about church: what the church is, and what it looks like to be a godly and committed member of a local church.

Description:

Sunday: time for church.

Do you feel eager anticipation? Or has life or weariness turned church into a dutiful habit?

Either way, it’s useful to pause and ask:

What is church, and what’s it for?
Why do we go?
What does God expect us to do when we’re together?
What gifts does God give to his church, and why?
How does our time together influence our time apart?

Long-time pastor and theologian Karl Deenick has thought deeply about these questions and has years of experience in living out the answers. In Gathered Together, Karl helps us to reflect on our relationship with church.

This book is clear, biblical, honest, timely and wise. It’s essential reading for everyone who wants to enjoy being part of God’s people, God’s way.

Don't judge a book by its cover

This book didn't seem one that I would enjoy but I was wrong. It is clear, and simple, and relevant. A book that asks good questions and gives clear answers. It raises questions about church and its purpose and made me think. Recommended.

Rekindled my delight in God's church

To be honest, I couldn't put this book down. I read it in one sitting. Certainly, I will go back and mull over a few sections. Gathered Together reminded me again of the importance of that feeble bunch of God's people gathering together each week. At a time when consumerism and individualism reign, Karl reminds us of the wonder of God's great building project. But I was also encouraged to spend more time on the church scattered, the 97%, and not spend all my focus the 3%, when church is gathered. If you are looking to refocus your congregation on the importance and joy of church, then you can't do much better that working through this book.
