In ""Jesus Through Muslim Eyes"", Richard Shumack explores Muslim conceptions of Jesus, tracing the theological evolution of the prophet known as 'Isa ibn Maryam, from the Quran to Sufi literature. Shumack handles his source material with grace, always staying respectful of Muslims while being unafraid to point out contradictions and inconsistencies in Islamic arguments and traditions. Written with academic soundness, yet maintaining an easily digestible tone, Shumack takes us first through the Islamic view of 'Isa, and then neatly segues into the Christian view of Jesus, and why Jesus is such an important figure in both religions - even though he is only ""at home"" in Christianity, to use Shumack's words.
An excellent primer for this topic, highly recommended.

2021 Australian Christian Book of the Year shortlist
Jesus Through Muslim Eyes examines and compares the Jesus we meet in the Qur'an, Islamic traditions and the Bible in a lucid and concise way. Richard Shumack is both rigorous and courteous. By focusing on Jesus he moves the conversation between Christians and Muslims in a practical and positive direction. The book recognises both points of connection and contention, and leaves the reader with the heart and challenge of the gospel: the person of Jesus. A strategic and valuable book.
