One contemporary scholar and authority on Spurgeon says of this work: "Next to Mr. Spurgeon's great literary work, *The Treasury of David*, we consider (these) *Lectures to My Students* his greatest single contribution to the Christian world. There is more practical wisdom, common sense, and sage advice packed within these pages than with any other book of similar size or content."
This edition of Spurgeon's great work will make it possible for today's generation to appreciate Spurgeon's combination of discerning wit and refreshingly practical advice. Included are such lectures as: - The Call to Ministry - The Preacher's Private Prayer - On the Choice of a Text - On the Voice - The Holy Spirit in Connection with Our Ministry - Posture, Action, Gesture, etc. - The Blind Eye and the Deaf Ear - On Conversion as Our Aim - Illustrations in Preaching

As were all of Spurgeon's messages to his people, each of these lectures is Scripture-saturated and Christ-honoring. They move swiftly and are fascinating in their content and sage counsel.

'We were nearly there when some figures blocked our way. I went cold all over. This was no chance encounter. They had planned this and waited for us. This was it.''Move out of the way Blackie' the skinhead said. 'We got business with your friend.' Star Smith has enough problems in life trying to keep her wacky family a secret. Then a black girl arrives on the scene.... With the racist attitudes of kids in her area Star knows that if she befriends Ebony she could lose more than her reputation.

    A classic for pastoral ministry

Spurgeon gives a lot of good practical advise for anyone considering the pastorate. \\nSometimes I feel he goes a bit too far, prescribing his own preferences or methods when there should be freedom of choice, but those cases should be obvious. \\nReading this also helps you understand the person of Spurgeon a bit better. We see his wisdom and experience shining through and his attention to many aspects of being a pastor that are not obvious but need to be addressed and considered.
