These are beautiful books. They feel well made and sturdy and the illustrations are impressive although I am not always sure what the point of the illustration is. I think that they would be great for an adult to read along with a child or children.
I would call this an expansive paraphrase where the meaning is made clear by adding in additional words and phrases but it is a verse by verse translation. Sometimes the additional words seem to bring in new concepts for example in the first verse "Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus" becomes "This letter is from Paul and Timothy. We are servants of our King, Jesus Christ" where the mention of "King" seems unnecessary.
I would recommend that, if possible, you look at the books in-store before you buy them. There is also the web page which you can visit to see many of the images and if you scroll down you can read Philippians 2:5-8 and 1 Peter 2:4-8.
