The Apostles' Creed For All God's Children (A Fatcat Book Series)

Although my daughter is only two and a half. . . she loves following the Fat Cat throughout the book and seeing the pictures. I bought this book for her at Christmas time knowing it's something she would grow into. We often recite The Creed during meal times. The only page that threw me is where it mentions how as believers we belong to the holy, catholic Church which the reader should understand as the one, universal church united under Christ (NOT the Roman Catholic Church). As The Creed was written in ancient history, the reader should not be alarmed by this. Great book to train up our children in what we believe about God and why!

This large hardcover book is attractively illustrated, and a really nice big size. At first I was unsure about the theology, as some things seemed odd, but then I discovered bible verses that supported it, and I realised it was more my lack of understanding about what the bible does say about some of these topics. I wish somehow that it didn't use catholic Church, to talk about the worldwide church, because for most people catholic no longer has that meaning, so though this is the original wording of the apostles creed, for kids understanding, I would have enjoyed a different word here. There is a page at the back that does explain about the meaning of this term and others that may be confusing. Each page has a line from the creed and extra story to deepen understanding. The favourite part for my kids was hunting for the cat in each picture. I wouldn't recommend this for everyone, but those who want to dove deeper into creeds theology with their children, this is a great resource.
