A dual time line murder mystery with some romance sprinkled in

This novel recounts a period of time before a double murder, right after and decades later. The chapters switch between a woman who lived at Traeger Hall and a woman who inherited it in the present. The author does a good job of teasing out the details of the past and inserting a new mystery in the present as well. I liked the twists but it makes absolutely no sense that if someone was arrested back in the day why there would be a mystery around who the killer was- that would have been in the papers. There still would have been plenty of mystery as to how/why and the matter of the art and bricked up place. . . and the present day issues as well. If you ignore that one bit then this was an interesting tale with unique twists.
