Easy to watch, and plenty to think about

Where do we base our faith? How do suffering, miracles and skepticism link with trusting only in the Bible? This movie explores this well and tells a nice story with lots of examples of Christian service. The gospel isn't clearly explained but lots of reminders about key points. The whole family can watch this and have something to talk about afterwards.

    Family Feel-Good Film

A well-made production with quality actors and a good script - reminiscent of what you would expect from the BBC or Hallmark Channels. Lesley Manville and Barbara Flynn, both well-known and well-loved actresses was a lovely surprise to see in a so-called Christian film! They were fabulous together in BBC's,""""Cranford"""". Lesley also starred in another BBC classic - North and South which is one of my favourite films where she played the wife of a Pastor. The Christmas Candle is a strong film of faith that kept a good paced tempo. Susan Boyle's singing was very much appreciated - what a treat! The only flaw I have is that angels are not female, and that is a biblical flaw that makes it inaccurate. Otherwise, it is a feel-good family film that should boost your faith and encourage you to be living out the spirit of Christmas!

    Truth or Superstition

I was disappointed with this movie in that it seemed to mix true Christian belief and superstition, with superstition given trustworthiness in the end. Unless I missed the point, the movie's portrayal of the candle's power to bring about answers to prayer was unclear if it was trying to portray something godly. At worst though, to me, it portrayed that God somehow uses magical instruments to fulfil His work.

    Loved It

I agree with Dr T's review. Certainly something that can be watched again and I am guessing you would pick up some things you did not realise the 1st time. Nice family style entertainment good for Christians and non-Christians and not an obvious plot line so you can still be surprised as you watch it. Loved Susan Boyle who did not sing a lot but did a fair bit of acting, Bought her Christmas CD """"Home for Christmas"""" for a Minister for Christmas and it was not in the cellophane so I listened to it first, beautiful, beautiful voice. Excellent CD especially for Christmas you can either sit and directly listen to it or use it as background music for your Christmas Eve, lunch or whatever and it works. It won't annoy your non-Christian folk either. Well worth getting, its a bargain (maybe the folks at Koorong will put it on an after Christmas special, it deserves all the plugging it can get). Anyhow, I am getting distracted, saw this DVD when we had a Christmas Movie Night at church and invited the neighbours, one neighbour who lives next door has not been in the church in 42 years that she has lived there, but came for the Movie Night and is still talking about how much she loved the movie - so there!!! I am going to buy a copy for the Minister also.
