In the Christian Church the Gospel of Matthew has been considered the most important portrait of Jesus' life and message. Containing Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and a uniquely rich collection of parables, among many other things, Matthew has made a major contribution to the church throughout the centuries, and it still has much to say to the church today.
This superb commentary in the Pillar series explores the meaning and relevance of Matthew in an eminently straightforward fashion. Leon Morris writes for readers who use commentaries to discover further what the Bible means. Throughout, he makes clear what he considers to be the meaning of the Greek text that Matthew has bequeathed to the church. A perceptive introduction precedes Morris's warm hearted verse-by-verse exposition of Matthew, an exposition based on his own literal translation of the text. Now a standard reference work on the Gospel of Matthew, this mature, evangelically oriented commentary will continue to meet the needs of students, pastor, and general readers alike. ***-Publisher.***
"Morris's latest book fills a gaping hole in the shelf of New Testament commentaries. At last we have a work on Matthew that is worthy to take its place beside the major studies on the other Gospels. Its thoroughness, clarity, and theological sensitivity will make it a treasured resource for all students of the Bible".--David Allan Hubbvard, Fuller Theological Seminary.

Great commentary!
This is a fantastic commentary that contains concise exegesis and thoughtful reflection on the meaning of each passage of Matthew. Because of the author's relatively simplistic writing style, this commentary is not limited to formal theological students or ministers, but is readable to the more """"lay"""" audience. Certainly recommend it for anyone looking to gain a greater understanding of Matthew

Fantastic Commentary on Matthew
This is a wonderful commentary on Matthew; Leon Morris typically breaks down a verse into it's words or phrases for closer inspection to provide a comprehensive understanding of the text, but does so in such a manner that it is readable for student, lay person or scholar alike. Also does not lose track of the 'big picture' ideas of passages with this style either. This precise but concise exegesis is also nicely complimented by his inclusion of application of the text, which does not feel forced and is only added where appropriate. A great read for anyone looking to gain a greater understanding of Matthew's gospel.
