**What if it’s not you? What if it’s what you were taught?**

Thousands of women have shared their #MeToo stories of how the teachings in popular Christian books and churches on sex and marriage have damaged their trust, made them feel dirty, and forced them into unhealthy patterns of shame, obligation, and denial.

Best-selling author Sheila Wray Gregoire and her coauthors expose problematic teachings that have made their way into evangelical Christian resources and show how they fly in the face of psychological research and biblical teaching. They surveyed more than 20,000 Christian women and used their findings to set the record straight and offer a compassionate, biblical, and affirming perspective for moving forward.

*The Great Sex Rescue* unlocks the secret to what makes some marriages passionate—and others toxic. You can rebuild your marriage from the ground up, reclaim the wonder meant for marriage, and make sex great again in your marriage.

Endorsements:

"This book is a groundbreaking look into what true, sacred biblical sexuality is intended to be and the root causes and ideas that damage a couple's intimacy in marriage. Going straight to Scripture, the authors dig deep into ideologies that draw couples away from God-designed intimacy, and they seek to construct a framework for sexuality that is truly rooted in Scripture and God's beautiful design, elevating sexuality and marriage to the glory and sacredness it was intended to have. This is a must-read."
—*Rachael Denhollander, lawyer, victim advocate, and author of What Is a Girl Worth?*

"This book is so incredibly powerful! If you've ever read a Christian book on sex and marriage, you owe it to yourself to read this one. Armed with extensive survey data and equipped with compassion and common sense, the authors dismantle the devastating myths long promoted by Christian leaders that have caused untold damage to generations of Christian women. Equal parts distressing and liberating, this book is desperately needed in this moment."
—*Kristin Kobes Du Mez, author of Jesus and John Wayne*

"I cannot think of a more important book (outside of the Bible) that you must read. This book is the authentic gut punch that the evangelical community needs. This exposes our historic dismal handling of sexuality and gives us a clear path forward to sexual maturity, wholeness, and health. I already want to read it again and will surely be telling my network to purchase this vital guide. Thank you for such a seminal work!"
—*Andrew J. Bauman, LMHC, cofounder and director of the Christian Counseling Center for Sexual Health and Trauma*

"*The Great Sex Rescue* is exactly the type of book on sex I would want my college students reading. This next generation has been personally burned by bad Christian sex advice. Both women and men will benefit from *The Great Sex Rescue*, but I think young adults may benefit most."
—*Dr. Heather Thompson Day, author of Confessions of a Christian Wife and professor of communications at Colorado Christian University*

"This book should be required reading for all married Christians. Growing up in the evangelical Christian world taught me very little about what a healthy sexual dynamic should look like other than 'Don't do it until you're married. Then do it all the time!' It's time we deconstruct the destructive and harmful teachings that have gone unchallenged for so long and embrace a truly cross-centric view of sexuality, and for that I can think of no better resource than this book."
—*Travis Albritton, The Practical Christian Podcast*

"With Sheila's years of experience and passionate heart for marriages and individuals struggling with sexual disconnection, her current research provides new insights that speak truthfully and directly to how the world of Christianity has not always provided the support or adequately addressed the hurts of those needing biblical love and direction. I applaud her and her team for their compassion, for their sound research, and for becoming a voice for women who are confused and hurting by what God never meant to be distorted—his design for beautiful and loving sexuality without shame or guilt."
—*Sheri Mueller, MA, LCPC, Growthtrac Ministries*

Buy it for all your friends!

This book is like a breath of fresh air!

As someone who bought the mainstream evangelical marriage books in order to set myself and my husband up for a good marriage, I wish this book was written then!

It does a wonderful job of pointing out the false and unbiblical beliefs that are too often perpetuated by other marriage books, and uses both the bible and statistics (by people who know how to do and use statistics properly)!

I buy this book for any of my friends and family members who are about to get married.

    Th Great Sex Rescue

Amazing amazing, can't recommend for anyone who has had or wants to have great sex who also follows Jesus. Invaluable for pastors, counsellors and anyone who wants to talk about sex to others in the church. Reset your thinking to align with what is Biblical following Jesus for a healthy marriage that beams into a healthy amazing sex life.

    Finally!

I have been married for almost 11 years and I have never felt more free than after reading this book. I never even considered that the Christian Evangelical books, blogs, sermons on sex and marriage may have been part of the problem. Honestly, every Christian person should read this book. It is extremely eye-opening. It is also backed by research involving 20,000+ women who were surveyed. They have an epidemiologist on their team and she knows her stuff. I highly recommend it if you want to understand the fullness of sex in marriage that God always intended but the church got a little bit wrong. Thank you to Sheila for writing this book!

Excellent Resource for Church Leaders and Christian Couples

I was a newly married 24-year-old youth leader when I first heard of I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris from one of my student's parents. I thought it very strange that everyone was taking relationship advice from a 21-year-old, and I had no idea that book would kick off a movement in evangelical Christianity that would still exist when my own kids were old enough to date. \\n\\nChristians are often hyper-critical of secular self-help and yet we need to be discerning what we endorse within the church as well. \\n\\nThe authors of The Great Sex Rescue set out to right problematic evangelical teachings that wreck sex for many couples. They start with an examination of the purity movement (how can we expect to understand and enjoy sex when we are told to avoid even kissing before marriage?) and analyze other popular Christian literature that is often taught in small groups and Sunday school classes. Common themes in these resources such as obligation sex, women's responsibility for men's fidelity, and unequal partnership turn destructive in many marriages. \\n\\nBased on an accredited survey of 20,000 women, this meticulously researched book is what we need to recover what God intended for Christian marriage - secure relationships and great sex. \\n

Outstanding re-examination of Christian teachings on sex

The heart of this book is a plea to reclaim sex - the way it was designed to be by its Creator. Intimacy in marriage is a beautiful gift, but I have too often seen cheapened versions of it sold in Christian resources. So, I was very interested to read this book, especially as someone who grew up in the purity culture. I had read several of the resources that were mentioned in this book, and I so wish I could have read The Great Sex Rescue seven years ago, before I was married. That is because Sheila, Rebecca, and Joanna absolutely NAIL the exact reasons why many of the messages we heard from our Christian speakers and leaders (and consciously or unconsciously accept) are so harmful, even though they sound so right. \\n\\nI love how this book is grounded in research. The authors surveyed 20,000 women to gather data on how different beliefs about sexual topics affected marital and sexual satisfaction. There is nothing fluffy here, no feel-good self-help, no patronizing, no time-wasting poetic prose. The girls get straight to the point and don't apologize for it. The book is comprehensive; I was surprised at just how much they covered, each chapter discussing an important issue. \\n\\nAmazed, shocked, saddened, grateful, and hopeful were some of the emotions I felt over the course of reading this book. But mostly, I was cheering all the way through at the intelligent, research-backed, and easy-to-understand explanations the authors gave of how each unhealthy teaching affects…
