Scary themes - better for older readers

I bought this book for my 8 yo daughter who found the first half quite frightening. Wolves battling rabbits with intense fight scenes. She stopped reading.

I then read it myself and cannot recommend it to children under 11, due to these themes, despite the cute rabbits on the cover. The battles and war elements are quite complex so also involves an older vocabulary and comprehension. Not as much of a clear biblical connection as I expected either. No mention of God and I felt like I was reaching deep to unpack biblical themes.

    Popular at home

Our older children - aged between 7 and 12 - really loved the Green Ember and continue to read the books regularly.

    Fantastic

Well thought out book, very descriptive and imaginative. Great as a read aloud or as a quiet reading time book. Beautiful parallels to Jesus’ sacrifice, my nine year really enjoyed it. Has both action and slower paced moments.
