    You can do better

The additional study material is poor - all black and white photographs with shadows. Not professional photographs as they contain major shadows in the photographs, and this is even worse when the photos are black and white. The black and white photographs are what you would expect to find in the days of ancient printing! This book is sub-standard and does not live up to the quality that you would expect today. The print is quite small and fine - like you would see in a bible and not the average text book. The introduction by Paul Maier says that he has used the Whiston translation of Josephus which is lacking because it does not use the Loeb numbering system - but he has amended the numbering system to reflect the Loeb. Yet he still says that better translations of Josephus are St John Thackeray, Ralph Marcus and Louis H Feldman - yet he has not used these translations himself. Why would a scholar tell you he has used a less inferior translation and not what he deems is best? So he has used a less desirable translation, and the additional maps and pictures are utterly useless being in the black and white and not colour, that they would better have been omitted all-together. A very disappointing purchase. Obviously this was purchased online! Had I seen the pathetic photographs - would not have purchased it. My husband says the photographs are poor quality because there is too much contrast and that is why the pictures are unrecognisable, and the features indistinguishable.
