Though written more than three centuries ago, John Bunyan's classic allegorical tale of one man's journey to the Celestial City still has the power to challenge and encourage readers on their own spiritual journeys. This reprint of the 1895 edition includes the beloved illustrations of William Strang. A cherished gem of English and Christian literature, and a must-read!
Although John Bunyan's Pilgrim emerged in Puritan dress from the Town Prison on Bedford Bridge in 1676, he has remained to this day, in more than 120 languages, an influence which is almost as wide as Christianity itself. Many explanations are offered for the book's enduring appealthe masterly allegory which can charm both child and adult; the great humanness of the characters who, after a few rapid strokes, appear in flesh and blood likeness; the plain, vivid Englishand yet all these things are secondary.Above all, Pilgrim's Progress is a life story. It depicts the life which Bunyan himself lived and, at the same time, the life with which all Christians can substantially identify themselves. For, as Augustus M. Toplady wrote, the book describes 'every stage of a Christian's experience, from conversion to glorification.' It does so with such abiding relevance because Bunyan's world of thought is that of the Bible itself.

Other than the Bible, I would struggle to think of any books that have been more helpful to me as a Christian than this one. The book tells the story of Christian, who represents all followers of Jesus. The various experiences of the Christian life are played out using the many vivid characters and places that Christian meets as he follows the straight and narrow path to the Celestial City. \\nAlthough written over 300 years ago, this book is still so relevant for Christians today. Bunyan's insights into the joys and struggles of the Christian life are profound, and I resonate with the experiences that Christian goes through on almost every page. This edition by Banner of Truth is high quality and should last for many years.
