In 1715, Lady Blythe Hedley's father is declared an enemy of the British crown because of his Jacobite sympathies, forcing her to flee her home in northern England. Secreted to the tower of Wedderburn Castle in Scotland, Lady Blythe awaits who will ultimately be crowned king. But in a house...

But in a house with seven sons and numerous servants, her presence soon becomes known.

No sooner has Everard Hume lost his father, Lord Wedderburn, than Lady Hedley arrives with the clothes on her back and her mistress in tow. He has his own problems--a volatile brother with dangerous political leanings, an estate to manage, and a very young brother in need of comfort and direction in the wake of losing his father. It would be best for everyone if he could send this misfit heiress on her way as soon as possible.

Drawn into a whirlwind of intrigue, shifting alliances, and ambitions, Lady Blythe must be careful whom she trusts. Her fortune, her future, and her very life are at stake. Those who appear to be adversaries may turn out to be allies--and those who pretend friendship may be enemies.

    Wholesome reading

A wonderfully written historical novel that sweeps you away to a bygone era and brings it to life. It is a rich, intriguing and captivating story with unforgettable characters that will capture your heart. Thoroughly enjoyed the journey this story took me on through Scotland. Wholesome reading.

    An unlikely pair, fit perfectly

A historical romance filled with the perils of war and family. Changing attitudes and growth throughout. I found the main characters charming. I wouldn't mind hearing how the rest of the family fares if this was turned into a series. Nicely wound up with hope for the future.

    Supremely satisfying!

I am again undone by Ms. Frantz's powerful storytelling and the rich detail and prose lent to this slow-burn romance set in the Scottish lowlands. Everything about this book was phenomenal!\\n Blythe's gentle, yet bold, love and loyalty, along with her personality of patient persistence made for a character that I found to be highly admirable. And Everard's ability to take command in a tough situation, while still remaining compassionate, considerate and wise, was an immediate draw towards him for me. Plus, who could resist that Scottish brogue?!\\n I laughed aloud, nearly cried, felt my heart swell with the fullness of understanding, was nearly lifted from my seat by the beauty of it all and ached with sympathy for the wrongs imposed. The Rose and the Thistle (don't you just LOVE that title?!) had everything in it that I could've wanted. Supremely satisfying! Five stars!
