Some guests have come for a holiday, others for hidden reasons of their own . . .

When their father's death leaves them impoverished, Sarah Summers and her genteel sisters fear they will be forced to sell the house and separate to earn livelihoods as governesses or companions. Determined to stay together, Sarah convinces them to open their seaside home to guests to make ends meet and provide for their ailing mother. Instead of the elderly invalids they expect to receive, however, they find themselves hosting eligible gentlemen. Sarah is soon torn between a growing attraction to a mysterious Scottish widower and duty to her family.

Viola Summers wears a veil to cover her scar. When forced to choose between helping in her family's new guest house and earning money to hire a maid to do her share, she chooses the latter. She reluctantly agrees to read to some of Sidmouth's many invalids, preferring the company of a few elders with failing eyesight to the fashionable guests staying in their home. But when her first client turns out to be a wounded officer in his thirties, Viola soon wishes she had chosen differently. Her new situation exposes her scars - both visible and those hidden deep within - and her cloistered heart will never be the same.

Join the Summers sisters on the Devonshire coast, where they discover the power of friendship, loyalty, love, and new beginnings.

“In true Jane Austen style, author Julie Klassen pens another winner! Readers will adore The Sisters of Seaview, a charming tale with all the wit, romance, and heartwarming moments set on the beautiful seaside of Sidmouth. The Summers sisters are delightful and the sometimes quirky residents are sure to make you smile…except for Mrs. Elton. You’ll see what I mean when you read this winner of a Regency story!”

    lovely

This book was a perfect start to what I am sure will be one of my favourite series yet! Julie Klassen so effectively brings to life the Regency era. I love how her books are also little history lessons, as she describes details of life at the time (and provides some further facts at the end of the book). If you love Jane Austen's classic tales of sisters, then you will enjoy meeting this family of four (plus a mysterious fifth) very different sisters. They each react differently to their shared circumstances, learning and developing as the story progresses. This is definitely a book to be read as a series - while one of the sister's stories does reach a happy ending, the rest of the plot is left somewhat unfinished. I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens!

    Great Characters

Julie Klassen delivers an excellent first book in the 'On Devonshire Shores' series that will be enjoyed by readers of regency novels. 'The Sisters of Sea View' introduces the four Summers sisters as they open their home to guest after finding themselves destitute after the death of their father. Through the story they learn to trust God and give him control over their situation. Klassen's characters show depth and face problems we can relate to, while staying true to the time period. I enjoyed this book considerably and look forward to the next book in the series.

Glad this is to be a series!

This book was a little confusing with all of the characters having a part of the narrative, I had to go back and look at which sister was doing what a few times. I did enjoy getting to know all of them a little bit and am looking forward to how each of their stories will unfold in the future editions. Loving who got together in the end and the set ups for things in the future. I do hope the next one is not too far behind!
