Two Seconds Too Late (#02 in Jeopardy Falls Series)

I enjoyed reading Two Seconds Too Late, the second book in Dani Pettrey’s Jeopardy Falls romantic suspense series set in New Mexico. Riley is a Skip Tracer who works with her brothers and Grey at their PI Agency. Riley’s friend is missing, a mysterious key is left on Riley’s doorstep, and someone starts threatening Riley’s safety.

Grey is a military veteran and private investigator who goes undercover with Riley at a Couple’s Retreat. The Wellness Spa Resort, in a remote location, is the last place Riley’s friend was seen before she disappeared. Grey and Riley have been friends for years and they’re hiding their romantic feelings for each other. They’re both carrying a truckload of emotional baggage from childhood trauma and past experiences related to their jobs. Their undercover fake relationship that kick starts their romance is hilarious and adorable.

Danger is their constant companion and the suspense plot is complex and action packed. I loved how the mysteries in the story kept me guessing and turning the page to find out what happens next. It was fun reuniting with side characters who were introduced in One Wrong Move, the first book in the series. Grey and Riley struggle with trust issues and I appreciated how the faith threads were woven into the story.

I recommend Two Seconds Too Late to romantic suspense readers who like friends-to-more and brother’s best friend romances that include an undercover fake relationship, unrequited love, forced proximity, high octane…

This is the second book in this series and we are back in Jeopardy Falls New Mexico. This time the Riley MacLeod is the main character. She teams with Greyson Chadwick a co-worker to investigate a friend’s disappearance. Her brothers are also back as they are partners in the Investigation business. This book is action packed right from the start.

It didn’t take long to remember the characters from the first book in the series. The opening scene has Riley in a life and death struggle which will play out through the book. What happens gives her nightmares which she has to deal with. At the same time Greyson is also dealing his own struggles from the past.

Riley and Greyson have to pose as a married couple at a retreat to look for clues on a friend’s disappearance which leads to dangerous situations. At the same time fighting an attraction for each other. Riley has grown to have feelings for Greyson that she is sure he doesn’t return. We find out Greyson feels the same way. While navigating danger they are navigating their feelings. Added to the tension is Greyson dealing with past issues that he blames himself for.

The suspense is there from the start and picks up as the book continues. Its not just the missing friend in danger Riley has also become a target. Which in turns means Greyson is too. The fact this book is set in December with snow and cold seems to add drama in my eyes. I always find the cold element makes the…
