What If?

This book is appealing even when you look at the cover (my daughter loved the picture). It is extremely healthy to understand from a young age that it is normal for christians to have doubts. Instead of dismissing or disciplining this attitude, Young affirms that in the bible even the Psalmists doubted. My teenager opened the book as soon as she got it because it normalised her """"question asking"""" about her faith. The excellent thing about this book is that Young then addresses the most common doubts a young christian may have with thoughtful and helpful answers from the bible. There are interesting and helpful illustrations to help the reader understand. Highly recommended.

Kristen Young's book is written to appeal to teenagers, and features situations that many young readers may have found themselves in. \\r\\nBut I would be surprised if older readers do not also find it easy to relate to the stories she uses to help us think through our doubts and fears. \\r\\nShe helps us to think through why we experience doubt, and gives practical guidance on how to deal with our feelings, which, more often than not, are a bigger problem than our intellectual struggles. \\r\\nI love the way that her chapter titles for the first part of the book are the counterpart of our doubts. Some of these are\\r\\nWhat if God is real?\\r\\nWhat if Jesus didn't stay dead?\\r\\nWhat if I can trust the Bible?\\r\\nLater, she goes on to deal with our doubts about ourselves with chapters such as\\r\\nWhat if I don't feel like a Christian?\\r\\nAnd she recognises that sometimes our doubts come when we have been let down by other Christians. When I began the book and she referred to this, a host of people who let Jesus down during the course of my life came flooding into my mind!\\r\\nI'm sure everyone who has questions about the message of Jesus will benefit from reading this book. \\r\\nHighly recommended.
