A Practical Tool for Ministry Training & Leadership formation

A brilliant book on leadership principles and thoughts that has short, engaging chapters. Craig has a concise yet friendly way of writing that's direct and engaging. He uses both stories from his experience and illustrations from a variety of contexts to support his comments. It is written for ministry leaders of all types and contexts, and has extra chapters for team leaders. The book covers a good mixture of character, competence and convictions of leadership. This is definitely """"wisdom"""" in the sense that it deals with practical principles to apply to God's people living in God's world that have been derived from observations (of life and Scripture) and lived experience. \\nI bought a copy for my ministry apprentice and we read a few chapters each week then discuss them in our coaching sessions. \\nI also bought it as an eBook so I can share chapters with co-workers, fellow ministers and friends. \\nThis book is a gem and well-recommended for every ministry bookshelf. Whether you're in pastoral or parachurch ministry, paid or volunteer, this is a book to keep returning to regularly.

    Wide-Ranging, Insightful, Practical

This book is an excellent primer on leadership that covers a huge range of topics. It not only covers the essential cores of leadership from a biblical perspective, but then goes on to provide practical wisdom on many other things like planning, empowering, training, time-management, team-management, setting and implementing a vision, and countless others. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis is a perfect book for anyone in church leadership - I guarantee it'll change the way you lead in a positive way.

    Great Read for every pastor

This is a great read for every pastor especially team leaders. I despair many times when I hear of teams that are falling apart because many of the principles outlined in this book have not been understood or ignored. It covers a wide range of topics and helpfully has a section for team leaders that focuses on these issues from a team leader point of view. As I write this the book is 700kms away, if it were here there are a few pearls I might have shared. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis is a book you can read happily cover to cover or just dip in where you find something of value. In an era with so much emphasis on professionalism (Which is not all bad) it is great to find a book that has the focus on being a servant (not a doormat) leader. \\r\\n\\r\\nI thinks it is so good I have bought it to give away and will no doubt do so again to help young leaders. (I am now retired, kind of)\\r\\n\\r\\nEnjoy the read\\r\\n\\r\\nRay\\r\\n\\r\\n

The best book on church leadership I've read

As a pastor who is most comfortable with prayer, proclamation and caring for people - the structural and administrative aspect of church life has always been a struggle. I've been searching for a book that shapes church leadership around the gospel and Christ-shaped service, and not simply taking business ideas and giving it a Christian veneer. Here is the book I've been looking for - it's a great mix of theological, relational and organisational insight. My copy is dog-eared, highlighted, and re-read thoroughly. It's the book I've longed for.
