In 1942, Evie Farrow is used to life on Ocracoke Island, where every day is the same--until the German U-boats haunting their waters begin to wreak havoc. And when special agent Sterling Bertrand is washed ashore at Evie's inn, her life is turned upside down. While Sterling's injuries keep him...

In 1942, Evie Farrow is used to life on Ocracoke Island, where every day is the same--until the German U-boats haunting their waters begin to wreak havoc. And when special agent Sterling Bertrand is washed ashore at Evie's inn, her life is turned upside down. While Sterling's injuries keep him inn-bound for weeks, making him even more anxious about the man he's tracking, he becomes increasingly intrigued by Evie, who seems to be hiding secrets of her own.

Decades earlier, in 1914, Englishman Remington Culbreth arrives at the Ocracoke Inn for the summer, but he doesn't count on falling in love with Louisa Adair, the innkeeper's daughter. When war breaks out in Europe, and their relationship is put in jeopardy, will their love survive?

As Evie and Sterling work to track down an elusive German agent, they unravel mysteries that go back a generation. The ripples from the Great War are still rocking their lives, and it seems yesterday's tides may sweep them all into danger again today.

Bestselling and award-winning author Roseanna M. White whisks you away to two periods fraught with peril in this sweeping and romantic dual-time tale.

    Split Time Historical Romance

I don't usually like war books, and this one has stories bridging two, but I picked it up anyway because the characters and their stories sounded so interesting. I'm glad I did because from first sentence to last, I was captivated. Often in split time stories, I'll prefer one timeline (and its storyline/characters) over the other. I find myself rushing through one to get back to my preferred storyline. But I never did in this one. Maybe because of how the stories intertwined, maybe just because I loved the characters. Either way, it's a story that will stay with me a long time. Also really really loved all the cameos from Roseanna's other stories. Each one brought a smile, even if it was just the mention of a name, knowing they were all together. If you enjoy historical fiction, split time fiction, romance, stories based around family, or just really well written characters, definitely pick this one up.

    Dual timeline family lineage romance

This historical dual time line romance deals with two wars, racism and social elitism. But love conquers all. I wasn't always certain there would be happy endings and peril and suffering abounded. Well written and timed, never a dull moment I didn't want to put it down as I needed to know how things turned out. I love how revenge was not the plot and family and prayer were major themes. I'll be looking into this author's other offerings, she'll possibly be a new favourite.
