Christmas Story: Bethlehem Town (Lost Sheep Series)

Nice book for children of a range of ages. There are a couple of sentences for each double page, so is suitable for young kids but the messages are ones that older kids would really appreciate too. The story is written by an Aussie. The pictures are very simple but bright and colourful. In short, this books talks about what Mary and Joseph must have experienced when they arrived in Bethlehem! This books is part of a great series.

Written in rhyme, this version of the Christmas story takes a different angle on what it may have been like for Mary and Joseph when they arrived to Bethlehem. It gives a good start for discussion on what the Bible does clearly tells us about Jesus' birth compared to what isn't said but we may imagine. I would recommend it for children 4-12 years.

This book, like all the books in the Lost Sheep series is bright, colourful and engaging. I've used it during story time for a group of kids aged from 1yr to 10 yrs old and they all stayed engaged and loving it. It is basically the story of Jesus birth in Bethlehem but told in a way that is unique. The pictures tell as much of the story as the rhyming verse. Cecil's page which is at the back of the book gives discussion points to expand the story for the older children as well.

This is Bethlehem town like you've never seen before! With bright cartoon drawings, trademark Aussie humour and some wonderful Bethlehem hospitality, kids and parents alike will love this version of the Christmas story. I especially love that it's written in rhyme. The lilting words making it such fun to read. Highly recommend this book, and all the other Lost Sheep books!
