From Philosophy to Technology, Tracing the Origin of Identity Politics

How did the world arrive at its current, disorienting state of identity politics, and how should the church respond? Historian Carl R. Trueman shows how influences ranging from traditional institutions to technology and pornography moved modern culture toward an era of "expressive individualism." Investigating philosophies from the Romantics, Nietzsche, Marx, Wilde, Freud, and the New Left, he outlines the history of Western thought to the distinctly sexual direction of present-day identity politics, providing readers with a clearer understanding of the modern implications of these ideas on religion, free speech, and issues related to personal identity. For fans of Trueman's *The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self*, this new book offers a more concise presentation and application of some of the most critical topics of our day.

History of our journey of sexual revolution

This book has many ideas from rise and triumph of the modern self, his previous book, but in a much more condensed version. \\nThough it's a book you want to be reading when alert and thinking clearly, it makes the ideas easy to understand, and gives are really interesting history of where many of the modern ideas when have about identity, culture, sex, etc. first started! It gave me a much clearer understanding about how we have ended up where we are in 2023, with the policies being made in our western governments. \\nWould recommend for anyone interested in understanding our society and culture better, and wanting to understand the history of the sexual revolution.

    Excellent

I HIGHLY recommend reading this book to those who are intimidated by the length of the full version. It was super helpful and expanded my knowledge and understanding of where we are and how we got here. Will definitely want to reread and now I'm more confident approaching the long version.

Excellent condensed and simplified version of 'Rise and Triumph. . . '

This is a great condensed and simplified version of Trueman's 'The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self'. With all the main ideas of its longer counterpart, this version is a much easier read with simplified language and without the extra depth. While I very much enjoyed Rise and Triumph, I prefer this version as it communicates all the main points far more concisely. Each chapter includes an introduction, body and conclusion and then following by reflective questions. I would highly recommend this book to those who have been wanting to read Rise and Triumph but baulking at the length and academic language.
