I actually haven’t read Paradise Lost, but with this Preface, I feel much more prepared should I do so. Lewis explains the generic and theological backgrounds to Milton’s epic, challenging ‘modern’ misunderstandings and misconceptions of a heroic Satan or whatever. Relatively accessible, given Lewis’ philological expertise, but there is the odd untranslated Latin and Greek.
