A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to 'Our Father Below'. At once wildly comic, deadly serious and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man.
Dedicated to Lewis' friend and colleague J.R.R. Tolkien, *The Screwtape Letters* is the most engaging account of temptation, and triumph over it, ever written.
*'The book is sparkling yet truly reverent, in fact a perfect joy, and should become a classic.'* Guardian
A brilliant synthesis of entertainment and edification, wickedly witty correspondence to provide instruction for his young protege in the infernal art of leading a new Christian astray. The experienced tempter passes on lots of helpful advice on the finer points of capturing souls to the novice agent "in the field". Through an ingenious inversion of Christian values, beliefs, and practices, *The Screwtape Letters* exposes the true face of evil, as well as God's plans for overcoming it in the life of the believer. ***-Publisher.***
On its first appearance, The Screwtape Letters was immediately recognized as a milestone in the history of popular theology. Now, in it's 70th Anniversary Year, and having sold over half a million copies, it is an iconic classic on spiritual warfare and the power of the devil. This profound and striking narrative takes the form of a series of letters from Screwtape, a devil high in the Infernal Civil Service, to his nephew Wormwood, a junior colleague engaged in his first mission on earth trying to secure the damnation of a young man who has just become a Christian. Although the young man initially looks to be a willing victim, he changes his ways and is 'lost' to the young devil. Dedicated to Lewis's friend and colleague J.R.R. Tolkien, The Screwtape Letters is a timeless classic on spiritual warfare and the invisible realities which are part of our religious experience.

Creative way of presenting biblical truths
Previously, i have found other works written in this format either really easy to smash through or an unbearable slog. This was somewhere in the middle.
I found myself doing a lot of self reflection during this read. It was a good reminder of past, present and future ways I could be abandoning what is good and Godly.

Always a timely reminder
It's been a while since I read this, but it's a fascinating concept exploring real, every day spiritual warfare in every Christian. A reminder that Satan indeed is active and we must always be on our guard.

A classic for a reason
Clever, unique, witty but sinister. A fictional (or is it?) insight into how the enemy tries their best to get in our way or worse. . . Dismantle our structures to let tohuvavohu in. A good book to reread again and again over the years.
